Research Interests

Phosphophoryn (PP) is a secretory protein and contains a sequence rich in (DSS)n repeat units. This highly acidic and unique sequence of PP possesses all the characteristic features to bind calcium, to initiate the process of mineralization. Ms. Zhang’s research interest is to study the role of PP in the biomineralization process to understand the role of posttranslational modifications on the structure and function of PP, and assess the effect of PP on the mineral formation in different cell lines. Her studies also include PP-induced signal transduction, such as MAPK, and Smad-related signaling pathways, in hMSC, NIH3T3 cell lines.
